Racing already accounts for many of the area's top tourism draws. Hendrick Motorsports, which borders the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg county line, attracts 165,000 visitors annually to its racing museum, and Roush Racing, near Concord Regional Airport, brings in 100,000 fans each year. The speedway brings in 1.25 million guests while Dale Earnhardt Inc., in nearby Mooresville, hosts an estimated 230,000 fans annually. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is looking to leverage on this tourism by drawing these fans to the uptown area. This, coupled with the Hall of Fame being used as a convention center, will only bring more traffic to this area. Anyone who lives or works uptown is asking the same question, “How are we going to accommodate all these extra people?” Beginning this month, Boyle Consulting Engineers (BOYLE) has begun work on the roadway improvements on South Caldwell Street and I – 277. BOYLE has initiated field work including soil test borings as part of providing geotechnical engineering support to the project. The roadway improvements are intended to improve the flow of traffic, enhance the visibility of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and improve the utilization of the land at the interchange.
