Several years ago, Lowes Home Improvement Inc. relocated its headquarters to Mooresville, NC from Wilkesboro, NC. In the process, the Wilkesboro airport lost a valuable tenant and the Statesville airport gained one, being the closest suitable airport to Mooresville, NC “Racing City-USA”. The Lowes relocation to Statesville was a significant factor in extending the runway and improving instrument landing procedures to facilitate the new resident. The airport subsequently attracted additional tenants, to include racing teams escaping the new-found congestion at Concord Regional airport.
As part of the overall growth of the Statesville airport, plans were approved to expand the taxiway and ramp areas to park additional general aviation aircraft. BOYLE was contracted to provide geotechnical engineering and earthwork testing/ monitoring during the construction. BOYLE’s in-house aerial photo documentation has assisted the construction managers and other members of the team to not only document the soil compaction effort, but also documentation of the overall site conditions and construction progress as well.
